Analysing a student piece of writing in Peer Group

20th-24th November,2023 Its finally here, my last blog. It was a learning experience blogging,  was a bit frustrating at times trying to navigate using technology, however it was worth it all.  I was able to share my class experience and  some new strategies which will be useful when implementing within my classroom and can be used to  enhance students learning. What was really interesting about this class, was the opportunity given to analyse a different student writing pieces. This was really and truly an eye opener for me. This was a new experience and never imagined that ideas, organisation, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions and presentation are all important and must be given close attention when analysing a student piece of writing. As a teacher when analysing a piece of writing, ideas must convey the central message and details that support that message.     Additionally, when looking at organization there must be evidence ...

What are expected in Analysing a Students writing.

13th-17th November,2023 Well, well, well the count down begins. For me this session was very enlightening and useful since it was unknown to me. I never Knew that  the 6-Point Scoring Guide and the 6 plus trait are requirements for analysing a student writing. I believe that they are all important and useful in ensuring that student pieces are well written. In analysing a piece of writing one must include an overall statement of the students writing, background of the child, areas of strengths and weaknesses of the student writing and suggested activities that can be used to assist the student. This  bit of information is  very useful and  important to me as it will be used during practice teaching. I am willing to do more practice so that I will remember clearly what are expected when analysing a student piece of writing.

I need to be Persuaded, who's willing to assist me?

6th-10th November,2023 Hey there are you already persuaded or need to be persuaded?   After reading my blog, let me know what do you think?    First of all, do you know that persuasion is the art of crafting words that not only convey a message but also ignite a conviction, planting seeds of influence that blossom  into agreement.  For me, I still need some form of persuasion on writing this persuasive piece. Nevertheless I thought that this lesson was rather informative.  However, I believe that there is need for extra help in putting a great persuasive piece together. I would really like if our lecturer gives enough practice for this genre of writing before our final piece. In my opinion this is one of the most difficult writing for me to execute. Appreciation will be in order, if our lecturer uses peer assistance so that I can get ideas or ways to improve my persuasive piece. I believe that ample time will be needed when generating my ideas. ...

Its All about The 6+1 Trait

Image
Week 30th October- 3rd November   It's another time for blogging   and my eye opener from this class sessions  is The 6+1 Trait. The 6+1 trait model, often used in the context of writing and literacy education, is a framework for assessing and improving the quantity of written communication. It consist of seven key traits, which are: (1) Ideas: The content and main message of the writing.  (2) Organization: The structure and flow of the writing. (3) Voice: The authors unique and engaging style. (4) Word Choice: The use of precise and effective vocabulary. (5) Sentence Fluency: The rhythm and readability of sentences. (6) Conventions: The correctness of grammar, punctuation and spelling.  (7) Presentation: The overall visual appealing format of the writing. Are you aware that these traits provide a systematic approach to evaluating and enhancing the quality of ones written work? With the "6 +1" trait being the holistic judgment of the overall...

Learning from each other

Image
21 st -27 th October, 2023 Have you ever asked yourself, why in some instances it is best to work with four eyes and two brains? 👀 From this week session, what stood out to me was the strategy of pair grouping.  This is where two students are instructed to partner up in order to complete a task set by the teacher. Here are some of  the importance of learning and sharing from each other: 1) Diverse Perspectives- collaborators bring different backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints to the table, this can lead to more creative and well-rounded solutions to problems. 2) Complementary Skills- Each person may have unique skills and expertise that complement each other, allowing for a more comprehensive approach to the tasks. 3)Increased Productivity- working in pairs can lead to more efficient work processes, with tasks being distributed and completed more quickly. 4) Quality Assurance- Having another person review your work can help catch errors, improve quality ...

16th-20th Zoom Zoom Zoom

Image
This week was very interesting, our lecturer really made this session applicable. What stood out to me was the Zoom in Strategy. This strategy typically refers to a method of storytelling where you start with a broad overview of a topic and then progressively delve into finer details. In doing so the writer is providing a more comprehensive understanding of a subject by examine it at different levels of magnification, much like zooming in on a digital image.     I found this strategy very interesting because it allows the writer to facilitate a more comprehensive and engaging exploration of a topic, making it a valuable tool which will be ideal for storytelling. I really like the idea in which Mrs. Lazarus took us to the Botanical Gardens with the intention of taking one picture in capturing the Ministerial Complex. It was a challenge in taking one shot that can really capture this. My colleges had to walk to a higher point in order for capturing a clearer shot of what ...

Yes, It’s All About Narrative Writing week

Image
9 th -13 th Well again it’s another week for blogging, and this week forces on Narrative writing . First of all, I thought to myself what can be used to assist in this learning process. Then this useful tool came to mind, the KWL chart. Indeed, this is an effective tool that engages student in the learning process.  Therefore, I decided to use this suitable learning tool  . It deals with what you know, what you will like to know and what you have learnt. Before I was introduced to the definition of what is narrative, I already had knowledge of what it entails ( k ) – it deals with story writing. I then wanted to learn, ( w )- how   can I write a good narrative piece and what do I need to do in order for this to be possible. Lastly ( L ), I learnt that good writers spend most of their time in writing down information or brainstorming their ideas. I honestly cannot remember receiving vivid information of narrative writing until this course. My thoughts of n...
