What are expected in Analysing a Students writing.

Well, well, well the count down begins.
For me this session was very enlightening and useful since it was unknown to me. I never Knew that the 6-Point Scoring Guide and the 6 plus trait are requirements for analysing a student writing. I believe that they are all important and useful in ensuring that student pieces are well written. In analysing a piece of writing one must include an overall statement of the students writing, background of the child, areas of strengths and weaknesses of the student writing and suggested activities that can be used to assist the student. This bit of information is very useful and important to me as it will be used during practice teaching. I am willing to do more practice so that I will remember clearly what are expected when analysing a student piece of writing.

ReplyDeleteWhat would you say was the most insightful thing that you learned when analysing your students' writing? Concerning myself, analysing the student's writing gave me insight into assessing his ability to organise his thoughts, use logical reasoning, and understand abstract concepts. Therefore, by analysing the structure and content of the student's writing, teachers such as you and I can identify areas where students may need additional support or practice.
Hello Denisha, to me what was most insightful when analysing the student writing was ideas. This allowed me to look for evidence and examples that support his main points, is there clear, focused, and well-developed ideas that will engage his readers? therefore if these are not present in his writing then the duty of the teacher is to provide activities that can assist him, e.g., showing a short video clip on topic he selected, read a similar book so that he can generate ideas. I have learn that when ideas are limited then story will not be interesting to the readers. Can you give me your thoughts on ideas?
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on ideas are to use the handout Mrs. Lazarus gave you to study how ideas can be incorporated into writing as well as how to assess it in students' writing.

DeleteHey friends, to be honest, this is my first time using the 6+1 writing traits to analyse a writing piece. I am so happy that this was a peer assignment because I needed help from Denisha. Knowing all about the writing traits was the key to writing a clear and concise analysis.
ReplyDeleteHello Dessy, I must say it was my first time as well. Although I am not where I should be at analysing, I must say admit that I have learnt how it is done and through various practice I definitely will be more verse in doing so. There are many benefits that can be derived from using the 6+1 writing trait such as, it offers specific criteria for evaluating writing, providing clear guidelines for both students and teachers. Also it allows for personalized instruction, addressing specific needs based on assessment of each trait, contributing to differentiated learning.
