I need to be Persuaded, who's willing to assist me?
6th-10th November,2023
After reading my blog, let me know what do you think? First of all, do you know that persuasion is the art of crafting words that not only convey a message but also ignite a conviction, planting seeds of influence that blossom into agreement. For me, I still need some form of persuasion on writing this persuasive piece. Nevertheless I thought that this lesson was rather informative. However, I believe that there is need for extra help in putting a great persuasive piece together. I would really like if our lecturer gives enough practice for this genre of writing before our final piece. In my opinion this is one of the most difficult writing for me to execute. Appreciation will be in order, if our lecturer uses peer assistance so that I can get ideas or ways to improve my persuasive piece. I believe that ample time will be needed when generating my ideas. I can only imagine how some students may feel when given a task on persuasion. As a teacher I will vow my self to do further research and watch multiple videos which will better aid my understanding so that I can provide the necessary assistance that my students will required. I remember that persuasive writing uses emotional language that shapes, modifies and influences ideas, attitudes, beliefs and values. Therefore, keeping this at the forefront of my mind, I am willing to do what is most important to better cater to the needs of my students.
Wow, what an amazing video, that was. It clearly outline the steps in writing a persuasive piece. I found this video to be like the icing on the cake. It has really provide me with a clearer understanding of persuasive writing. I hope it has been very useful to you as well.
Hello Makeda,
ReplyDeleteOne can also agree that persuasive writing requires a great deal of practice. This genre of writing entails the understanding that persuasive writing is all about convincing the reader to accept one’s point of view. It also involves presenting and supporting an apparent argument with logical reasoning and factual evidence.
Based on your blog, I think you believe that to master persuasive writing, one must understand the basics of choosing an interesting topic, researching thoroughly, structuring the argument effectively, and revising and editing one’s writing.
Hello Denisha thank you for responding to my blog. Thanks for reiterating in order for one to be persuaded, the reader must be convince to accept the writers point of view and must be supported with logical reasoning and factual evidence. I will like to emphasize that the topic should not be merely an interesting topic but one that enables research and logical reasoning. I totally agree that persuasive writing does required a great deal of practice and in my opinion more practice that when compared to the other genres of writing? Have you ever did this type of writing before with any of your students? If yes, what was the students reaction?
ReplyDeleteHi Makeda, let me share an important point that one of my teachers at the secondary level told me and it stuck with me. while doing a persuasive piece, make a note of the points for and against. The side with the strongest point, that is the one you write your essay on. It doesn't have to be the stance you believe in but the one you can write a great persuasive piece on.
ReplyDeleteThankyou Dessy-Ann for sharing this valuable piece of information. This is very interesting and to me it makes so much sense. Definitely I will keep this in mind and looking forward to give this a shot. I really like this point and it will stay with me also. There may be times we select a topic and decide to take the stance for , but upon doing research we realize that the against points are more and stronger. Therefore, I agree with this point and will definitely share it with others, especially my students.
DeleteHi Makeda, I appreciate how you highlighted the art of crafting words to ignite conviction—it's such a crucial skill. Your reflections on the challenges of persuasive writing resonate with many, and your call for extra practice and peer assistance is understandable. The insight that Dessyann shared is what I normally do as well. Try it and it will definitely help. Nevertheless, I like the commitment you show towards improving your understanding of persuasive writing, both for yourself and for your future students. This is truly commendable.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Rowann for your kind words. I am happy that you share the same sentiment as Dessy-Ann. This really make me want to try this point even more and of course, whatever new strategy we learn. We need to always think about our students first and how this can make learning interesting, impact knowledge and at the same time fun. These strategies are not only for ourselves but to be implemented within our lessons, ensuring that learning will be achieved.
