Learning from each other

Have you ever asked yourself, why in some instances it is best to work with four eyes and two brains?👀
From this week session, what stood out to me was the strategy of pair grouping. This is where two students are instructed to partner up in order to complete a task set by the teacher. Here are some of the importance of
learning and sharing from each other:
1) Diverse Perspectives- collaborators bring different backgrounds, experiences and viewpoints to the table, this can lead to more creative and well-rounded solutions to problems.
2) Complementary Skills- Each person may have unique skills and expertise that complement each other, allowing for a more comprehensive approach to the tasks.
3)Increased Productivity- working in pairs can lead to more efficient work processes, with tasks being distributed and completed more quickly.
4) Quality Assurance- Having another person review your work can help catch errors, improve quality and ensure a higher standard of output.
5) Knowledge- sharing collaborators can share information and teach each other, promoting learning and personal growth.
However, its important to note that effective collaboration requires good communication, shared goals and mutual respect. Also, working in pair can enhance creativity, problem solving and productivity.
It was a great experience working in pairs because we were able to interact and provide feedback from task given. We can come to the conclusion that this strategy has its place and as a teacher I had the first hand experience. This made me see that at some point in our lives, we are never to old to learn from each other. Therefore, this experience really made me imagine my self in my students conscious mind. This strategy can really assist my students in solving problems together, learn from each other and build social skills.
This video I came across essentially outlined ideas that makes good pair collaboration.
Have a look, you might learn more or it can serve as a re enforcement
Well done on this blog post, Makeda!
ReplyDeleteUsing myself as an example, I found that I work best with peers who are hard workers, disciplined and who ‘push’ me to do better. Collaborating with someone who is productive, as you mentioned in your blog, motivates one to be productive and causes you to do lots of self-analysis of your strengths and weaknesses.
I especially loved the fact that you mentioned that learning from each other assists with increasing one’s knowledge due to having complementary skills as well as teaching and learning from each other. These are critical to aid both parties in achieving success in writing.
Hi Makeda, while reading your blog I was smiling because I can relate to everything you wrote. The peer session we had in class was a great assistance in completing my narrative piece. We are truly never too old to learn from each other!! Over the years of teaching, I realised that students sometimes work effectively in groups to complete tasks. oh, I also like that the lecturer gave us a choice in choosing our partners. Choice in the classroom is very important!
ReplyDeleteHi Makeda, peer learning is more than what meets the eyes.During peer learning students become both teachers and students while elevating their understanding of various concepts. Some students learn faster from their peers than the teacher at times and such it is vital that we use peer learning and group work in our daily lessons. One drawback is that some students are not good working in groups or with another person.Thank you for sharing some of the benefits of peer learning.
ReplyDeleteHey Shirdin, 👋 thank you for responding to my post. We can both agree that peer learning has it's advantages and disadvantages. However, as teacher we need to cater to all students within our classroom because of their different learning profile . Therefore, we need to implement different strategies based on the lesson.
